My mission trip to Haiti,
by Dr. Carmel Pradel
Dear Joe & Rita, This was my first trip to Haiti after 25 years. Thank you for providing the chance to reconnect to Haiti and the Haitian people. When I left Haiti at age 12, my goal was to select a profession that could be easily utilized in Haiti – to serve the Haitian popu- lation. This trip reminded me of one of my motiva- tions for all the studies that I did and the degree behind my name. I truly felt it was a privilege to use my skills as an oral surgeon with the Haitian people. The patients were so courteous and grate- ful, such as Lita, the lady that offered to braid my hair as a way to thank me for the service I ren- dered to her. She waited all day from 6:00am to 3:00pm to be able to return the favor to me. I wish I could have done more in the 5 days that I was there. There is such a great need for dental care in the community. I vote for recruiting more doctors, maybe double the numbers that we had on this trip so we do not turn anyone away. The community of Marbial deserves better and I am glad that you, your sister Hermione and Father Bertrand are there to see that help does come to the area. The work that you are doing will multi- ply – that’s my belief. Thank you for caring and for founding this Foundation in the name of Jeff Cherubin Domond. Love, Dr. Pradel
Medical and Dental Mission
By Joe Domond
Jeff Cherubin Domond Foundation is ready to organize its third an- nual medical mission trip to Haiti where a group of doctors, dentists, other medical professionals and supporters travel to this poor country and help out those in need. In March of 2009 at our first trip we cared for over 500 people in five days and in March of 2010 we cared for over 1,000 people. This year is going to be our third trip and we are planning to help more people. The people of Haiti are desparate after the earthquake of last Janu- ary, they need help and the Foun- dation needs yours. Please help us make this trip a reality. We need money, medical and dental supplies, medication, doctors, nurses, and anyone who would like to travel with us in this en- deavor. For further information, please contact Joe or Rita Domond at 909.816.7207 or email us at info@jeffcdomondfoundation.org.
Please help us bring safe drinking water to Haiti.
The quest for clean water dominates Haitian life. A lot of Haitian people die each year from drinking unsafe water. After last January’s earthquake one of the most common reasons for dying is the lack of access to clean and safe drinking water. In the spirit of brotherhood, Jeff Cherubin Domond Foundation stepped up to get clean water to Haitian communities. We have established contact with a manufacturer who builds Hydraid® BioSand Water
Filter systems http://www.hydraid.org. These simple filters have no moving parts, require no electricity, and can combat the leading causes of waterborne death and diseases by reducing parasites, bacteria and viruses found in contaminated water. One filter is designed to deliver 100 gallons of safe water per day for a family of 8 to 10 people for more than 10 years. Our goal is to put the water filtering system into schools, clinics, homes and other public plates in Haiti. We are partnering with Pure Water for the World to install these systems and train locals on their use and upkeep. A $100.00 donation covers the cost of purchasing, shipping, and installing a Hydraid® BioSand Water Filter system.
